Point of the Month for September

Our last point of the month focused on the Susquehanna Broad Point Style, a large broad knife form from the lower Northeast. This month we will look at another knife form with a varied design, distribution area, and generally a higher quality of material. This month's article will focus on tips to help the modern knapper create this classic look. Click below for more.

Letchworth Knap-In 2015

Another great event put on by the Genesee Valley Flintknappers. This year's knap-in at Letchworth State Park was another great opportunity to purchase supplies from the many vendors who attend the event, meet old friends, and build relationships with new ones. Whether you have never been Letchworth State Park or you are a long time attender of the event be sure to click the "read more" to find out about the park and more about the event and some of this years happenings.

Point of the Month

Each month we will be featuring a specific point style, considering how it may have been made, what it was commonly made out of, as well as its possible uses. Since this our first installment for "Point of the Month" it should make sense to go with a point style that is easily recognizable and local for Pennsylvania.

How to: Photograph a Rock

PA Jasper Susquehanna by the Author

Part of being a flintknapper is wanting to show off your work to other knappers. Knap-Ins are great places to do that, but for those times when large get togethers are far off, or those who you wish to share with are even farther away, a photograph is the easiest way to share your work. This post is all about the photographs and how they can be made.

The 2015 Bald Eagle Knap-In

Image of the lake during 2014 Bald Eagle Knap-In

It rained, rained again and then some more but the 2015 Bald Eagle Knap-In turned out to be another great year. While numbers were down spirits still remained high as a beautiful first day on Friday turned into a very rainy weekend. Knappers came from all over some for the first time others for the 16th yr in a row. For that past 4 years Bald Eagle State Park has provided a wonderful location for the event at the swimming area of Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir a 1,730 acre lake created by the Army Corps. of Engineers. Be sure to read more about the event after the jump.
