Independence Day

I believe our flag is more than just cloth and ink. It is a universally recognized symbol that stands for liberty, and freedom. -John Thune

Happy Birthday America read more after the jump.

July 4th, an arbitrary day in history, was in 1776 penned into our nations history as the day America declared its independence from Great Britain. Fifty-six individuals signed the declaration, nine of which were from Pennsylvania, more than any other state. While commonly believed to have been signed on July 4th the document was actually signed on August 2nd, 1776. That day we were free of outside governing and taxes, and left to fail or succeed on our own.  Since that day, challenges have arisen.  Brothers have fought against brothers and families were divided.  Our government and our economy have had great successes and great failures.

As history shows though, America has grown through its times of great apprehension. America has shown its perseverence in being a nation that stands for liberty and freedom.

As we celebrate this holiday let us not forget those who have fought for our freedoms. Even the simple freedoms in being able to spend time with one another breaking rock, fletching arrows, and gathering from nature the tools needed to create fire. Enjoy your time with family and friends and be safe this holiday weekend.
